Does anyone have a suggestion on how many runs should you do to get a good representative sample of the performance. My understanding is that because of varying network conditions, its important to have a larger number. Somewhere I recall reading that something like 100 runs would increase the confidence level.

Also, WebPagetest uses the median rather than the average. As I understand it, a median is better when the data is skewed. Is this the reason why for web performance using the median is the better measurement?

I've just setup a private instance (release 19.04) on a Centos 7 VM with a Windows 10 VM running wptagent.

Everything seems to work fine, but I'm getting some unrealistically-quick figures when testing with latest Chrome Stable (74.0.3729.131):

Document Complete - Time: 0.002s
Document Complete - Requests: 0
Document Complete - Bytes: 0KB

I notice that the first request is a 302 redirect but I would expect the figures above to be for the 'target' page rather than for the redirect?

The Fully Loaded figures all look much more realistic for the (unfortunately quite slow) website that I'm testing: Time 26.955s, Requests 174 and Bytes 2,497 KB

Any advice/tips on why the Document Complete figures are so low would be appreciated please!

Before couple of days First byte time was A but now it has been F. I havenot done any changes to my server setting and website that degrades the performance. Can anybody help me to figure out what need to be done to my website to make A from F.

We used to get a detail waterfall chart with all requests (over 30 of them) up until a few days ago. Now we have only one request which is the fist request (see attached image). We haven't changed WPT for a long time. The only change might be Chrome. IE seems to be fine. Does anyone have any idea how to solve that?

Looks like there are 2 models with the same name:

Hey Folks.

So far I had my homepages on a normal server. The performance was okay. Now I have rented a dedicated server, which has significantly increased the user friendliness in the frontend as well as in the backend. The pages build up extremely faster and also working in the backend is now really fun... Unfortunately, this increase is not recognized or rewarded by any of the common test tools. The values are the same as before. How can that be?

Since the introduction of the GOOGLE MOBILE FIRST, which test results or tools are now decisive for Google to rank a page better?

Is it the Lighthouse Test in CHROME (Performance, Usibility, Best Practices, etc)?
Is it the SPEEDINDEX at webpagetest.org?
Or is it just the loading times?

It can't be that this global monopolist doesn't give clearly defined information on which reference values it depends on and with which tool you measure them.

I am able to successfully setup a private WPT server and WPT agent in Google cloud platform. I have a need to setup another private agent in Digital ocean. Agent is installed and running fine

I am able to list the agent in the WPT server. However when i submit a URL test using the agent ( digital ocean) i am getting an error "Relay: Invalid API Key". I followed your earlier suggestions from the forum ( remove keys.ini etc) but no luck.

Is there a method/utility to test the connectivity and functionality of agent to server communication through command line ?

I advised our website designers that the Google CDN was blocked and recommended using the CloudFlare CDNJS for the jquery.min.js call. They implement this and I observed 50 seconds off of the load time. Looking better!

I am now trying to understand if any changes to the site were made between the last two runs that would explain the improvement. I can see some items like the fav icon png loading after the font files but is that due to a change in the site or can that simply occur sometimes?

The Chrome mobile emulation user agent string is hard coded to Chrome 65.

Was there a specific reason for this? I had expected that it would have used the same Chrome rev as the desktop version, the current release. At the time I'm writing this that was 74.

To confirm I ran a test using the real Moto G4s listed at webpagetest.org and they also use Chrome 74.

I'm getting the following result below but when I inspect the page and look at the headers for the individual downloads they do show an expires. What am I not understanding?

We have found that NGENIX CDN is not detecting for some files that was downloaded from CDN.

I think it's because of lack NGENIX headers in "cdn_headers" list in optimization_checks.py

NGENIX CDN can be detected with "x-ngenix-cache" header.

I'm trying to test the performance of my website (https://blog.joshwalsh.me/) with JavaScript disabled. I'm going into Advanced Settings > Advanced and choosing "Disable JavaScript". When I do this it takes several minutes and then the results say:

Test Error: Page Load Timeout

But when I view the page in a browser with JS disabled it loads fine. If I do a webpagetest with JavaScript enabled it completes in a few seconds and the result appears correct.
